The Met Store Privacy Policy for Offline Use/Your Privacy Rights

Your privacy rights allow you to exclude your personally identifiable information (to "opt-out") from disclosure to third parties for marketing purposes (see Mail Preference).

As part of our commitment to your privacy, The Metropolitan Museum of Art Store supports and adheres to the guidelines and practices adopted by the Direct Marketing Association's Commitment to Consumer Choice.

When You Shop The Met Store


The Met Store will ask you to provide personally identifiable information necessary to fulfill your online order or catalogue request, which may include your name, billing and shipping addresses, telephone number, credit card number, and Membership number (if applicable). This is the same information requested when you place an order by telephone or through the mail. For online orders or catalogue requests, we also require your email address so you can receive order and shipping confirmation emails, and so we can communicate with you if we have difficulty processing your order or request. When you make a purchase, your credit card information will be stored temporarily on a secure server, and we will retain the personally identifiable information you provided with your order for our records, to facilitate customer service, and to inform you of our products and promotional offers. If you are a registered customer at The Met Store, your credit card information will be saved for the next time you shop with us, or you may select Please do not save my payment details on the Order Review page to opt-out of this feature. The Met Store may combine the information you provide with other personally identifiable information to which The Met Store has access, such as purchase history and demographic information.

Occasionally, we share our catalogue mailing lists with carefully screened companies whose products and services may be of interest to you. If you prefer that we not make your name available in this way, or would like to be removed from our mailing list, please contact us:

While registering in The Met Store, you may uncheck the box labeled On occasion, I would like to receive information from companies carefully screened by The Met Store whose products and services may be of interest to me that appears on the Billing Address page of the registration process. You may subsequently edit your Communication Preferences in My Account. If you are placing an order online without registering (as a Guest), you may uncheck the box labeled On occasion, I would like to receive information from companies carefully screened by The Met Store whose products and services may be of interest to me that appears on the Billing Address page of the Checkout process.

If you would like to unsubscribe from email from The Met Store, either use the unsubscribe link found in the footer of each email or, if you are registered in The Met Store, you may edit your Communication Preferences in My Account. You may also contact Customer Service using the email, phone, and mail information above.

Members


The Met Store never shares with third parties any personally identifiable information you provide when purchasing a Membership or making a donation online, through the mail, in person, or on the telephone except as required by law (see Third-Party Service Providers). Active Members are deleted from the catalogue mailing list when it is shared with other companies.

Duplicate Catalogues


If you are receiving duplicate copies of our catalogue, please cut out and send all the addresses, marking the preferred address, to the Customer Service Department as noted above.

Third-Party Service Providers

The Met Store may engage reputable third-party vendors in order to help us manage our website, process transactions, and allow us to better respond to the needs of our customers and visitors. The Met Store requires its vendors to maintain the confidentiality and security of the information they are provided access to, and restricts the vendors from using the information in any way not expressly authorized by the Museum.
