ART HISTORY
The original Roman cast bronze head with a mottled brown and green patina was part of a small statue about twenty-five inches high. Although probably a Roman work of the first century A.D., the head recalls Greek prototypes of the fourth century B.C.; such finds of Roman art are uncommon in Israel, and the statuette probably comes from one of the major Roman centers such as Beth Shean or Samaria.
