Monet Bouquet of Sunflowers Scented Votives

Description
Sunflowers have been the subject of artistic expression throughout history. This votive set, created expressly for the Museum by one of the world’s oldest candle manufacturers, founded in France in 1734, captures the exuberant colors and subtle fragrances of Monet’s best-loved bloom. Made by hand in Normandy, this votive set is packaged in a gift box that features an image of
Bouquet of Sunflowers, while the glass holder displays the Monet quote: “I perhaps owe having become a painter to flowers.”
Set of 2 votives. Natural wax with sunflower scent. Made in France. 2 3/8''H, 2'' diam. 20-hour burn time each. 1.9 oz. each.

Art History
The sunflowers harvested for this lush bouquet grew flanking the steps that led down to Claude Monet’s (French, 1840–1926) garden at Vétheuil. He exhibited this painting, now in the Museum’s collection, in 1882 at the seventh Impressionist exhibition, where the “brio and daring” of his technique elicited the critics’ admiration.
