We have collaborated with Vancouver-based design studio Banquet Atelier & Workshop on this exclusive tee. The playful illustrations were inspired by the art and history of ancient Egypt, celebrating the lives and beliefs of a culture that has been a compelling subject for scholarly examination and an unending supply of fascination for centuries.
In ancient Egypt crocodiles were abundant and were depicted in a variety of guises, as both deities and magical protective creatures. Though crocodiles were dangerous animals, Sobek was a benevolent water deity with the head of a crocodile and a human body. Associated with the Nile floods and fertility, Sobek became linked to royal power during the Middle Kingdom.
