Our embroidered tunic is adapted from a splendid eighth-century Egyptian tunic in the Museum’s collection that shows the continuation of Byzantine styles in the first generations of Islamic rule of the region. Tapestry woven in undyed wool, the original tunic is richly decorated with woven human and plant motifs, attesting to the high skill of its maker.
