The Mummy Pencil Case is both educational and fun! While grabbing for a pencil, children can learn about the ancient Egyptians' belief that in order to enjoy the afterlife, certain preparations had to be made. The body of the deceased had to be preserved, wrapped in bandages, and then encased in a series of coffins decorated with hieroglyphic inscriptions, which were often spells or invocations to the gods to protect the occupant and guide them safely to the next world. The illustrations on the cover and interior of each tin case are adapted from various Egyptian coffins in the collection of the British Museum, London.
