An impressive group of Hellenistic adornments known as the Ganymede jewelry is in the Museum’s collection. It includes a gold necklace, earrings, fibulae (pins), bracelets of rock crystal embellished with gold wire, and a ring set with an emerald. The two pairs of gold fibulae, which date to 330–300 B.C., belong to a northern Greek type with “paddle-wheel” projections. Our elegant bracelet is based on the decorative ornament from these splendid gold fibulae.
