Classical Greek jewelry tended to exclude gemstones and placed a premium on the elaborate, often very delicate, working of the gold. Our splendid bracelet is based on two adornments in the Museum’s collection, gold beads (possibly 4th–3rd century B.C.) with geometric partitions worked to receive inlays and a gold necklace of spherical and tubular beads (ca. 330–300 B.C.) thought to be from a tomb in the ancient Greek city of Madytos.
