  • 7 1/2''L

Art History

During the 16th century, the technique of lacemaking was freed from a woven foundation and became a viable fabric in its own right. Bartolomeo Danieli (Italian, active 1610–43) published five books of lace patterns between 1610 and 1639, during a key period in the development of early lace techniques. The Museum houses an exquisite copy of Danieli’s Various Designs for Lace (Bologna, 1639), which demonstrates the range and beauty of his lacework. The design on our bracelet is based on an etching in this elegant book.
