Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) was one of America’s most noted decorative artists at the turn of the twentieth century. Exhibited in his New York showrooms on Madison Avenue was a pair of mosaic columns inlaid with glass tesserae, inspired by Roman and Byzantine art. The shimmering columns, in their subtle shading from midnight to pale peacock blues, demonstrate Louis Comfort Tiffany’s mastery of the medium. Our bangle design is based on the brilliant mosaics on one of these stunning columns in the Museum’s collection.
