Our beautiful Rams Head Finial Bracelet is adapted from a distinctive example of the ancient Greek silversmiths art. The Museums collection includes a finely worked silver bracelet with rams head finials, made during the Early Hellenistic period (late fourth century B.C.). During this period jewelry took on elaborate new forms, and incorporated rare and unique stones as they became available through newly established trade routes.

Art History

The beginning of the Hellenistic period in Greece is generally dated to the death of Alexander the Great in 323 B.C. Hellenistic kingship remained the dominant political form in the Greek East for nearly three centuries. Royal families lived in splendid palaces. Hellenistic kings became prominent patrons of the arts, commissioning public works of architecture and sculpture, as well as private luxury items that demonstrated their wealth and taste.
