DescriptionSterling silver with polished bronze accents, our Egyptian Knot Bracelet is adapted from an original bracelet crafted during the Middle Kingdom, from the 12th Dynasty (1981– 1802 B.C.), and now in the Museum's collection. The design of this bracelet reflected the ancient belief that protective spells could be bound to the wearer through a knot. This knot motif has been used in Egyptian jewelry for centuries.

Art HistoryIn ancient Egypt, pendants, necklaces, earrings, diadems, armlets, bracelets, anklets, and hair ornaments not only served to showcase class and beauty, but sometimes also served as amulets, protecting the owner from harm. Most common in the Middle Kingdom, bracelets like our Egytian Knot Bracelet were based on the ancient belief that protective spells could be bound to the wearer through a knot. The knot motif was used in Egyptian jewelry for centuries.
