Leonardo da Vinci Catapult and Ornithopter Kit Set

Description

The catapult is a working re-creation of the fifteenth century catapult designed by Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452–1519). The completed model makes a clever and functional desktop catapult, that is both fun to use, and inspirational to look at. The working ornithopter model is inspired by the many drawings of flying machines Leonardo sketched in his notebooks. Using the gears he drew to make the machine move, the model includes a pilot, with moving legs and arms, and wings that flap in a smooth and elegant motion. The flying machine can sit on its stand as a working model, or it can be removed from the ceiling and hung. Both kits are easy to assemble in an hour or two by beginner model makers.

Ages 12 and older (recommended for ages 12–16).

Catapult: Includes 21 pieces and clay. Natural/untreated wood. 10'' x 5 1/2'' x 16'' when assembled.
Ornithopter: 45 pieces. Natural wood and plywood. 11 3/4'' x 23 1/4'' x 15'' when assembled.
