This working ornithopter model is inspired by the many drawings of flying machines Leonardo da Vinci sketched in his notebooks. Using the gears he drew to make the machine move, the model includes a pilot, with moving legs and arms, and wings that flap in a smooth and elegant motion. With 45 main pieces and timber slot construction, it is easy to assemble in an hour or two by beginner model makers. The flying machine can sit on its stand as a working model, or it can be removed from the ceiling and hung.
Ages 12 and older (recommended for ages 12–16). Includes 45 pieces. Natural wood and plywood. 11 3/4'' x 23 1/4'' x 15'' when assembled.
