2012 Star and Snowflake Christmas Ornament Set

Description
For nearly four decades, the Museum has offered collectible gold star and silver snowflake ornaments with a new design every year. Continue your own tradition, or start a collection for a loved one with this year's dazzling star and snowflake ornament set. The Museum’s 2012 Star Christmas Ornament is based on a decorated porcelain saucer in the Museum’s collection, which was produced at the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory in the early 19th century. We’ve adapted the central gilded rosette from this elegant saucer, originally part of a coffee set, for our sparkling openwork ornament. The Museum’s 2012 Snowflake Christmas Ornament is based on a design drawing found in a nineteenth- century album created by jeweler Edgar Simpson (British, 1867–1945) in the Department of Drawings and Prints.

Star: 18K gold overlay. Includes a gold cord for hanging.

Art History
Established near Munich in 1747, Nymphenburg was especially noted for its elegant porcelain Commedia dell’Arte figures; in 1815, Ludwig I of Bavaria elevated the firm to the rank of state manufactory.
Bound in tooled and gilded leather, Edgar Simpson's (British, 1867–1945) album created in 1899 contains 34 pages of original jewelry designs in the Art Nouveau style. With their sinuous lines and curling foliage, Simpson’s imaginative designs for brooches, pendants, and other adornments display the essence of this influential decorative style, which reached its high point about 1900.
