Our captivating ornament is based on a tin-glazed earthenware jar in the Museum’s collection, which was made in the Netherlands about 1700–1705. A fine example of the Dutch pottery known as Delftware, the original jar is painted with chrysanthemums and rocks in imitation of luxurious Chinese porcelain.
