Description
One of America's foremost decorative artists at the turn of the twentieth century, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) was a master of many mediums, although his innovative work in glass remains the foundation of his legacy. Within the Museum's collection is an original Tiffany Studios design drawing (ca. 1905–10) for a leaded- glass lampshade, which is bedecked with clusters of sprightly blue flowers. Our lovely floral earrings are based on this original lampshade design.
18K gold overlay, hand enameled. Pierced, with gold-filled posts. 1'' diam.

Art History
Son of the founder of the silver and jewelry firm Tiffany & Co. of New York, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) achieved fame in his own right in interior decoration and for his innovative leaded-glass windows. Starting in 1898, he adapted his method of making windows to the production of artful lampshades, frequently inspired by natural motifs. Extant preparatory sketches indicate the great care that was taken in achieving the final design for the lampshades, many of which were custom-made.
