One of America’s most iconic images, Liberty Enlightening the World
was presented by France to the United States as a sign of friendship. Conceived of by French sculptor Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi (French, 1834–1904), the Statue of Liberty is his most famous work. The idea of a woman holding a torch first came up as a project for the Suez Canal, but was ultimately rejected. He then reworked the idea into a statue to commemorate the American centennial. This flash drive is based on a terracotta cast after Bartholdi’s model, then painted green to resemble an outdoor bronze.
