The original "1774 Doll" was dressed by famed couturier Jean Dessès (French, 1904–1970). He based his creation on Les Adieux
, an eighteenth-century etching of a fashionable lady, also in the Museum's collection, by illustrator and engraver Jean-Michel Moreau le Jeune. The doll's lavish draped skirt with gilt embroidery and poufed hair have been captured on our exquisite, collectible reproduction. Second in a series made exclusively for The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
