The Metropolitan Museum of Art is home to one of the world's most important collections of musical instruments, many as beautiful in sight as in sound. Our enchanting ornament is based on a late seventeenth- century trumpet made by Johann Wilhelm Haas (German, 1649–1723), the founder of a famed Nuremberg trumpet workshop. The original trumpet’s bell has a scalloped edge and decorative beading typical of his instruments.
