Description

Description

Buddhist symbolism first appeared around the 3rd century B.C., starting with images that avoided direct representations of the Buddha. Among these symbols, Tibetan Buddhists make use of a particular set of eight auspicious ones, called ashtamangalain Sanskrit. These adorn all manner of sacred and secular Buddhist objects and are also drawn upon the ground in sprinkled flour or colored powders to welcome religious dignitaries to monastic establishments.
