Featuring a winsome dove “delivering” a stamped letter in the Museum’s Jefferson R. Burdick Collection, our exquisite pin is based on a delightful mid-twentieth-century greeting card. At the age of ten, Jefferson R. Burdick (American, 1900–1963) began collecting American ephemera and, throughout his life, amassed the finest collection of advertising cards, baseball cards, greeting cards, paper dolls, and other paper collectibles in the United States. Burdick donated more than three hundred thousand items to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1947 and spent the next 16 years cataloguing his unique collection on our premises.
