We have collaborated with Vancouver-based design studio Banquet Atelier & Workshop on these exclusive notebooks. The playful illustrations were inspired by the art and history of ancient Egypt, celebrating the lives and beliefs of a culture that has been a compelling subject for scholarly examination and an unending supply of fascination for centuries.
Fish and lotus blossoms were symbols of rebirth and rejuvenation for ancient Egyptians and featured frequently in the art of the Middle Kingdom. The daily opening and closing of the lotus blossom reflected the rising of the sun at the dawn of creation. Fish pendants may have been worn by ancient Egyptians to protect from drowning, but it is also likely that they were worn for their magical powers of regeneration.
