The design of our watch is based on an original Paul Frankl (American, b. Austria, 1886–1958) clock, whose rectangle face features stylized numerals and radiating bands of alternating gold and gray. Trained in Vienna and Berlin, Frankl was a leading light in the development of a modern, uniquely American interior design. He was heralded for his line of Skyscraper furniture, which adapted the silhouette of the New York skyline as a potent symbol of modernity. His design for the “Modernique” clock, commissioned in 1927, offers a scaled-down version of his Skyscraper furnishings.
