Description
This lavishly illustrated songbook features 41 popular Christmas carols arranged for unison or simple four-part singing with or without piano accompaniment and includes works of art from the Museum's collection. Compiled and arranged by Sir David Willcocks, Director Eeritus of King’s College Chapel Choir (Cambridge, England), this songbook includes such favorites as “While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks,” “Silent Night,” and “Lo, How a Rose,” among others. Each song is complemented with a reproduction of a work of art from the Museum’s collection, such as an illuminated page from the Duke of Berry’s Belles Heures manuscript, an Albrecht Dürer woodcut, a detail from the Unicorn tapestries, as well as paintings by Fra Angelico, Rogier van der Weyden, Hans Memling, and François Boucher, and a variety of other Museum masterpieces. A helpful index of the carols’ first lines appears at the end of the book.
