This sleek necklace is constructed of laser-cut leather with an oxidized silver-plated chain. Its thoroughly modern design was inspired by the chevron patterns on Native American breastplates made of animal-bone beads. The original breastplates were worn ceremonially as symbols of protection and expressions of wealth.
The necklace is from a contemporary jewelry collection crafted by the husband-and-wife team at Oropopo Studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico. By combining innovative laser- cutting techniques with leather and other traditional materials, they create adornments inspired by the mythologies and iconography of the American Southwest.
