Description

Minnesota-born Donald Deskey (18941989) was a multitalented and innovative furniture, interior, graphic, and industrial designer, best known for his 1932 interiors for Radio City Music Hall. About 1928 Deskey designed the striking and elegant painted and silver-leafed wood cigarette box on which our dramatic pendant is based.

Art History

The Exposition Internationale des Arts Dcoratifs et Industriels Modernesthe state-sponsored fair held in Paris in 1925, from which the term Art Deco is derived marked the apogee of the Art Deco style. Art Decos popularity continued worldwide into the 1930s. While Art Deco designs in France were often decorative pieces for the wealthy, the aesthetic in America evolved along practical lines, as this new style was applied to mass-produced items for the middle class.
