Description

Description

This eye-catching handmade pendant takes its unusual form from an original gold object in The Met collection known as a bulla. A hollow container with a stopper, the bulla was first made by the Etruscans and later adapted by the Romans. It was worn as a pendant around the arm or the neck, sometimes with several on one chain, and might contain a charm or perfume. The gold Etruscan bulla of about the third century B.C., on which our pendant is based, has a stamped design showing a man between two genii. The wealthy, cosmopolitan, and luxury-loving Etruscans developed some of the finest jewelry of the ancient world.
