Our elegant necklace takes its design from a gold pendant in The Met collection, which was made in the second century B.C. The original adornment, in the shape of an amphora (jar or vase), was created after Alexander the Great conquered the Persian empire and extended his domain from Greece to Asia Minor, Egypt, the Near East, and India.
Miniature amphorae were a popular type of decoration for necklaces and earrings in the third and second centuries B.C. They form some of the most attractive and finely worked pieces of Hellenistic jewelry.
