Our nature-inspired necklace celebrates a vase in The Met collection. This handsome vase, decorated with a charming motif of catkins, was made in New York about 1904–09 by Tiffany Studios, the firm of Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933).
The designer was spurred to produce ceramics after seeing examples of French art pottery at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris. Many of his pottery vases derived their forms from common wildflowers and water plants as they look in their natural habitat–ferns, lilies, cattails, jack-in-the-pulpits, and toadstools.
