Art HistoryThe Japanese masters Hiroshige and Hokusai frequently depicted nature and landscape scenes in their prints. Each print required collaboration among the artist, the engraver, the printer, and the publisher. The publisher, who was often also a bookseller, usually chose the theme and determined the quality of the print. Artists were dependent on the skill and cooperation of the engravers and printers charged with executing their ideas.
