Art History
In 1824, jewelry designer Jean-Paul Robin established the hugely successful House of Robin, catering to the rising French professional and entrepreneurial class. Drawing on the spirit of the times to inspire his pieces in enamel and chased gold, Robin captivated the fashion world of the period. Marked as "bijoux sportifs," this jewelry of simple shape and fluid line in matte finish could be worn in more casual circumstances than in the jealously guarded, formal occasions of the aristocracy. Designs from the House of Robin, such as the one on which our pendant is based, have deeply influenced jewelers of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
