Our pin takes its design from an exuberant brooch and earrings demi–parure in The Costume Institute collection. This matching set, bedecked with sapphire–blue and white rhinestones, was created in the 1960s by a company called Trifari.
A leading manufacturer of 20th–century costume jewelry, Trifari was established by Gustavo Trifari in 1918. Much of the company's success is attributed, however, to the innovative work of Frenchman Alfred Philippe, the chief designer from 1930 until 1968. He designed for some of the most influential women of the day, including First Lady Mamie Eisenhower.
