Magnolia Window Pin

Description

One of Louis Comfort Tiffany's (American, 1848–1933) most notable designs was the brilliant five-paneled Magnolia window (ca. 1885) he created for the grand library at the Tiffany mansion at 72nd Street and Madison Avenue in New York. Divided by heavy leading, sections of the window were composed of graceful branches blossoming with pearly leaves and dotted with yellow and silver-gray leaf buds primed to open. Our elegant pin is based on the original window.

Art History

A master of many media, Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) was one of America’s most noted decorative artists at the turn of the century. Son of the founder of the silver and jewelry firm Tiffany & Company of New York, Louis Comfort Tiffany began his career as a painter, but moved quickly to interior decoration and other decorative media. In addition to leaded- glass windows and lighting fixtures, Tiffany Studios produced exceptional works in wood, bronze, and enamel, as well as jewelry, blown glass, pottery, furniture, and textiles.
