A talented writer, designer, and administrator, William Morris was one of the most influential figures of the British Victorian era. In 1861, Morris and others established a London interior design firm (reorganized in 1875 as Morris & Co.), which they modeled after the cooperative guilds of the Middle Ages. The firm's full range of household goods included abundantly detailed wallpaper and textile designs bearing lush flowers, leaves, and fruits. This digital reproduction was made from a hand- block-printed wallpaper in The Met collection, which was originally designed in 1884 by William Morris for Morris & Co.
