Islamic glass beads were traded in Africa as early as the ninth century, and European glass beads were introduced in the fifteenth century. Our striking eyeglass case and matching lens cloth design was developed from a richly beaded garment in the Museum’s collection made in the early twentieth century by the Mbukushu or Yei peoples of Angola, Namibia, or Botswana.
