Our sophisticated 24K gold overlay domed ring, created for the Museum by Robert Lee Morris (American, b. Germany, 1947), is based on original Morris pieces (ca. 1981–87) in the collection of The Costume Institute. Morris is one of America’s most celebrated contemporary jewelry designers. His distinctive pieces—which fuse organic forms, hand workmanship, and a cutting-edge sensibility—are sought by connoisseurs worldwide.

Art History
Robert Lee Morris’s (American, b. Germany, 1947), first solo show was held in the early 1970s at Sculpture to Wear, a New York showcase for one-of-a-kind art jewelry. Since then, Morris’s bold, clean, sculptural designs have garnered prestigious awards including the Coty Award (1981) and two Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards (1985, 1994). A collaborator with some of the world’s leading couture designers, Morris was honored in 2007 with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from CFDA.
