The Gilded Age master Louis C. Tiffany (American, 1848– 1933) adapted the concept of glass mosaics from Roman and Byzantine art. Our scarf celebrates his brilliant panel of colorful glass tesserae (ca. 1890– 91) made by the Tiffany Glass Co. This decorative panel in The Met collection was the prototype for a frieze he designed for the New York home of Louisine and Henry O. Havemeyer.
