The Museum’s collection includes a silk evening dress from Elsa Schiaparelli’s (Italian, 1890–1973) summer 1937 collection with a lively print featuring a wide array of butterfly types and colors. The print was inspired by Surrealist artists such as Salvador Dalí, Max Ernst, and Man Ray, with whom Schiaparelli shared many views. This artful gown is the source for our butterfly-bedecked scarf.
