Art History

Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), one of America’s most noted decorative artists, began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration and leaded- glass windows. Using his innovative opalescent Favrile glass, Louis Comfort Tiffany achieved pictorial effects of unsurpassed subtlety and beauty. In his window Magnolias and Irises (ca. 1908), Louis Comfort Tiffany employed a well- known motif, the River of Life, with delicately rendered irises and magnolia blossoms framing a winding river in distant hills.
