Our reproduction of the Statue of Liberty (188486) is based on a bronzed terracotta Liberty (1875) in the Museums collection, which belongs to an edition of terracottas cast after a preliminary "committee model." This early model was produced for donors of the funds needed to build the statues huge base in New York, and there are several differences in composition between it and the iconic statue as finally realized. Our reduced-scale reproduction was created with a combination of three- dimensional imaging and traditional sculpture techniques.
