Art History
The original lacquered bronze statuette, now in the Museum’s collection of twentieth-century art, was exhibited in Paris in the 1932 Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. It was made by the ancient process of ciré perdue (lost wax)—in which the model, or, pattern, was first molded in wax, then covered in plaster, leaving an opening through which the wax was melted out as molten gold was poured in; the result was an exact facsimile when the mold was removed.
