The Museum's sculpture is directly reproduced from a bronze cast made in 1920 after the death of Impressionist artist Edgar Degas (French, 18341917), who made the original mold.

Art History
For his sculptures as well as for his paintings, Edgar Degas (French, 18341917) found a ready source of inspiration in the ballet dancers of the Paris Opéra. Fascinated by the dynamics of movement, the artist created a series of works depicting various positions of dance, such as the arabesque position.
