Our sculpture is based on a Roman copy from around A.D. 4154 of an original detailed sculpture attributed to Polykleitos, a Greek sculptor famous for his precision and interest in casting the male figure in harmonious proportions.

The original bronze statue, from the fifth century B.C., is attributed to Polykleitos, a famous Greek sculptor. Polykleitos sought rigorous, mathematically based proportions in his figures. His attention to the smallest details can be seen in the precise design of each lock of hair on this young athlete's head.
