Description

In 1708, Andr Charles Boulle (French, 16421732), the most celebrated cabinetmaker of Louis XIVs reign, executed two bureaux for the kings bedroom at the Grand Trianon at Versailles. A new invention in the history of furniture, the Trianon bureaus were a combination of the table and the newly emerging commode. A lavish example in the Museums collection appears to be an early version (ca. 171020) from Boulles workshop. Our exquisite shawl design is adapted from the elaborate brass marquetry arabesques, inlaid in tortoiseshell, on this magnificent piece.

Silk/Viscose. Imported. 70'' x 22''.
