The Museum's elegant evening wrap was created by the Flying Fig studio in India, a specialty boutique known for its dramatic designs of luxury handmade textiles. The Peacock Proud motif is an ode to the splendid plumage of the stately, regal peacock as it displays its glorious and extravagant tail, a vision that has captivated artists in many media the world over. One of the most well-known artists to use the exotic design of the peacock's plumage is Louis Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933), who captured the lustrous shimmer of the bird's feathers in his works of Favrile glass, many in the Museum's American Wing. This magnificent shawl is inspired by the designer's impressions of the colorful peacock feathers in Louis Comfort Tiffany's works.
