Art HistoryGertrude Stein, her brothers Leo and Michael, and Michaelís wife Sarah were important early patrons of modern art in Paris during the first decades of the twentieth century. The Steins developed lasting friendships with Picasso and Matisse, in particular, and the salons they hosted at 27 rue de Fleurus and 58 rue Madame are legendary.
