Our coasters, created for the Museum's special exhibition
The Steins Collect: Matisse, Picasso, and the Parisian Avant-Garde, display a map of the Steins’ adopted Paris neighborhood in the 1920s. Gertrude and Leo’s address is marked with a red star.

Art History
Gertrude Stein, her brothers Leo and Michael, and Michael’s wife Sarah were important early patrons of modern art in Paris during the first decades of the twentieth century. The Steins developed lasting friendships with Picasso and Matisse, in particular, and the salons they hosted at 27 rue de Fleurus and 58 rue Madame are legendary.
