Our richly patterned top was made for the special exhibition, Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade, 15001800, at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. This groundbreaking exhibition tells an important design story from a truly global perspective. Beginning in the sixteenth century, the golden age of European navigation in search of spice routes to the east brought about the flowering of an abundant worldwide textile trade. We have adapted examples of trade textiles in the Museums collection for our distinctive top.
