In his Magnolias and Irises window (ca. 1908), Loius Comfort Tiffany (American, 1848–1933) employed a well-known motif, the River of Life, with delicately rendered irises and magnolia blossoms framing a winding river in distant hills. The Museum’s top depicts a detail from the original window.

Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), one of America’s most noted decorative artists, began his career as a painter but moved quickly to interior decoration and leaded- glass windows. Using his innovative opalescent Favrile glass, he achieved pictorial effects of unsurpassed subtlety and beauty.
