The lacy cutwork neckline on this feminine top adapts the interlacing pattern on a carved muqarnas
tile in the Museum’s collection. During the second half of the fourteenth century, in the city of Samarqand (in present-day Uzbekistan), such tiles were used to fill the supports between a square room and its domed ceiling.
